Lenten Service Schedule

Lent starts with Forgiveness

We start Lent at 7 p.m. the evening of February 14. We celebrate the rite of mutual forgiveness as we start the journey to the Holy Pascha.

Every Monday

On Mondays in Lent we will serve Great Compline at 7 p.m. During this beautiful, prayerful service, we proclaim that “God is with us!”

Every Wednesday during Lent

Join us at 6 p.m. for the Presanctified Liturgy. Bring one Lenten item to share for a pitch-in after Liturgy, so we can break bread together after fasting from all food, drink, smoking and idle talk at least from noontime on, in preparation for Holy Communion. You are also invited to stay after the meal for a study of our Faith.

Every Friday in Lent

A Lenten supper will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the service of Little Compline with the Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos at 7 p.m. (On March 19, however, we will concelebrate this service at Holy Trinity Church, in conjunction with a retreat hosted jointly by our ladies’ groups.

The First Saturday – Feb. 20

On the first Saturday of Lent, we serve the Liturgy for All Souls Saturday at 10 a.m. Bring with you a list of all the names of your departed to be remembered.

The First Sunday – Feb. 21

We will concelebrate the Sunday of Orthodoxy Divine Liturgy at the New Holy Trinity Church. Matins 8:15 a.m.; Divine Liturgy 9:30 a.m. at 3500 W. 106th St., Carmel.

Patriarch Bartholomew, the senior leader of 300 million Orthodox Christians, feels "crucified" living in Turkey under a government he says would like to see his Patriarchate die out. Despite some factual errors, the report is very inspiring (includes some footage in Turkey and on Mt. Sinai). Patriarch Bartholomew on the Last Christians in Turkey

Maria Khoury, who will be coming to Indianapolis to lead a retreat co-sponsored by the women of Holy Trinity and St. George, is interviewed in Taibeh, the last Christian village in the Holy Land. Maria Khoury on the Last Christians in the Holy Land

Both Maria and Patriarch Bartholomew emphasize their trust in God and believe in miracles.

Phase I of the New St. George Church

St. George Church of Indianapolis was established in 1926 and ministers to Orthodox Christians of a great diversity of backgrounds. We are united in our common Faith. At St. George’s, first and foremost, we worship together in the confidence that our Lord Jesus Christ is invisibly present with us, as He promised. We also study the Faith together in the children’s church school programs and in various adult study groups. We work together on various ministries, ranging from our charity ministry to youth ministry to building maintenance. Finally, but also very important, we enjoy fellowship with one another.

Assembling Health Kits for HaitiAPPEAL for the People of Haiti

The ongoing suffering of the survivors, who lack shelter, water, food, medical care and basic hygiene, is tremendou. We continue to respond to this suffering with the love of Christ.

Following Liturgy on Sunday, Jan. 17, we assembled 1000 health kits. God bless all those who worked to make this happen.

Your donations will also be greatly appreciated to offset the cost of the supplies, and everything over that will be sent directly to IOCC for the relief effort.

IOCC
IOCC (the International Orthodox Christian Charities) is a leading relief agency and responded immediately, working in cooperation with Church World Service (CWS) and Action by Churches Together (ACT). They are providing food, water, medical care and hygiene kits. Every dollar we donate to IOCC is matched by at least another 10. We communicated by e-mail and telephone with the IOCC office, and they told us they are expending all their available funds for this disaster and need our monetary donations, but they especially need us to assemble hygiene kits that they can distribute to help stem the spread of disease. You can also donate directly, online, to IOCC.
